I was running ha on a windows machine with a vm. It would crash or have wifi or skyconnect issues multiple times a week. Going ha green fixed my issues and my automations are finally stable
Very quick setup and works within minutes. Much easier than mucking round with Raspberry PIs and images
Be aware, Home Assistant is a great tool kit for home automation, but that's all it is - a tool kit for tech nerds, not a working solution for ordinary folk.
Nothing "just works", even the "easiest, simplest" Green box. Problems right from the start "Cannot see server", then "Can see server, cannot connect to server", then "HA installation failed, see logs", then "cannot create account".
After 4 hours of fiddling, looking up support community, got in. From the 3100+ advertised integrations only 2 of the 5 I wanted were there. And those 2 "could not find devices". Once again check community support "oh, yes, known issues, but you can hack here, fiddle there, write python script ...".
All OK if you are a tech nerd who loves tinkering, but not if you just want something that works.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience—your feedback is incredibly valuable.
We completely understand your frustration and want to acknowledge that Home Assistant, while powerful, can come with a learning curve—especially for those new to the platform or looking for a plug-and-play experience. Home Assistant Green aims to strike a balance by providing an accessible entry point into the Home Assistant ecosystem, but we know it’s not quite as simple as 'set and forget'—yet.
The strength of Home Assistant lies in its flexibility and community-driven development, which unfortunately can sometimes mean needing a bit of technical know-how for setup and troubleshooting. That said, we're always here to help guide you through any hurdles, and the community is constantly evolving to improve user experience, documentation, and integrations.
