At Oz Smart Things, we're proud to offer versatile, innovative solutions that make smart home integration simple and effective. One popular product that’s been getting attention lately is the SR-ZG2835RAC(AU) Oz ZigBee Rotary Smart Dimmer.
A recent customer had a great question about using this dimmer in a two-way lighting circuit — a setup common in many Australian homes. Let’s break it down and answer all your questions.
The Scenario:
- The customer has a non-smart 2-way lighting circuit.
- One switch point currently has a rotary dimmer.
- They’d like both switch points to have rotary dimming control and on/off capability.
Do You Need Two Smart Rotary Dimmers?
No, you will require an external push button and connect it to SR-ZG2835RAC(AU) for two way switching.
Does the Dimmer Support Two-Way Switching?
Yes, the SR-ZG2835RAC(AU) supports two-way switching. This means you can control the on/off state of the light from either of the two switch points — just like a traditional two-way setup.
However, it’s important to note:
- Dimming via the rotary dial only works at the physical switch that has a smart dimmer installed.
- App-based dimming is available once the device is connected to your Zigbee smart home hub or app (such as Home Assistant, SmartThings, etc.).
- The second switch point can toggle the light on/off, but it cannot dim the light unless it is replaced with another compatible smart rotary dimmer (this model does not support using two rotary dimmers together for two-way dimming).
Wiring Guidance:
This dimmer does support two-way wiring, but it must be done correctly to ensure both safety and functionality.
