LK730 OBD GPS Tracker – Setup and User Guide

This guide explains how to install, activate and use the LK730 OBD GPS Tracker. For the best results, complete each step in order.

Important: The LK730 requires an activated Micro SIM card with mobile data and SMS services. You may also need the APN details supplied by your mobile provider.

1. What You Will Need

  • LK730 OBD GPS Tracker
  • Activated Micro SIM card
  • Mobile data and SMS services enabled on the SIM
  • Your SIM provider’s APN details
  • A vehicle with an available OBD port
  • A mobile phone for sending SMS commands

Before installation:

  • Disable the SIM card PIN before inserting it into the tracker.
  • Make sure the SIM has sufficient credit or an active mobile plan.
  • Confirm that the SIM and network are compatible with the tracker.
  • Switch off the vehicle before installing the tracker.

2. Insert the SIM Card

  1. Open the cover of the LK730.
  2. Insert the activated Micro SIM card in the correct orientation.
  3. Make sure the SIM card is firmly seated.
  4. Close the cover securely.

The SIM card must support mobile data and SMS. The supplied manual also refers to GSM/GPRS service, so please confirm network compatibility with your mobile provider.

3. Connect the Tracker to Your Vehicle

  1. Locate your vehicle’s OBD port. It is normally underneath the dashboard near the steering column.
  2. With the vehicle switched off, plug the LK730 firmly into the OBD port.
  3. Switch on the vehicle.
  4. Allow the tracker time to connect to the mobile network and obtain a satellite location.

For the best first-time GPS connection, move the vehicle outdoors to an open area away from buildings, covered parking and other obstructions.

Cold-start location time Approximately 20–40 seconds
Warm-start location time Approximately 1 second

4. Set the Administrator Number

The administrator number is the authorised phone number used to control the tracker through SMS.

Send the following SMS to the SIM card installed in the tracker:

admin123456 YOUR_PHONE_NUMBER

Example:

admin123456 +61412345678

Replace +61412345678 with your own mobile number, including the correct international country code.

admin ok

To remove the administrator number, send:

noadmin123456

5. Configure the APN

The APN allows the tracker to connect to your mobile provider’s data network.

Send:

APN123456 YOUR_APN

Example only:

APN123456 telstra.internet

Replace telstra.internet with the APN supplied by your SIM provider. If you do not know the correct APN, contact your mobile provider.

6. Check the Tracker’s Location

Send either of the following SMS commands:

G123456#

The tracker should reply with its current position or a Google Maps location link.

If no location is returned:

  • Move the vehicle outdoors.
  • Allow several minutes for the first satellite connection.
  • Check that the SIM card is active.
  • Confirm that mobile data and SMS are available.
  • Verify that the APN is correct.

To enable shock sleep mode:

sleep123456 shock

Expected reply:

sleep shock ok

To disable sleep mode:
